Basic Service Information

When & Where: Annual Curbside Cleanup Day is provided to residents once per year. Materials must be placed out for collection in front of the residence and on the same side of the street.

Notification: The map above shows what month you can expect pick-up. Each resident will receive a door hanger approximately one week before their scheduled pick-up date. The door hanger will give details on what day to set out items, as well as what items are not acceptable.

Amount: A pile measuring 7'x6'x4' is the maximum that will be accepted. This is equal to five cubic yards of material, which is about the size of a pick-up truck bed filled even with the top of the cab.

Acceptable Items
Acceptable materials include items such as the following:

  • old toys
  • appliances
  • furniture
  • PVC pipes
  • lumber and junk
  • pruning's
  • tree branches

Lumber and PVC pipes shall not exceed four inches in diameter and five feet in length.

Unacceptable Items
Unacceptable materials include items such as the following:

  • tires
  • TV’s
  • computer monitors*
  • commercial waste
  • dirt
  • rocks
  • bricks
  • tree stumps
  • combustible materials
  • liquids
  • toxic materials
  • household garbage
  • steel pipes
  • batteries and heavy materials, such as auto bodies, bumpers, and engines.

*Due to recent changes in landfill regulations, tires, televisions, and computer monitors are no longer accepted in the Annual Curbside Cleanup Day. These materials can be dropped off at the Elder Creek Transfer Station for a fee.

Allied Waste will collect residential Bulky Waste at the Set-Out Site once each year without additional charge in amounts up to 7' x 6' x 4', or 5 cubic yards (approximately the size of a pick-up truck bed filled even with the top of the cab).

Customers may call in advance to request collection of discards containing cathode ray tubes (CRTs) such as TVs and computer monitors. Discards will be collected for an additional fee.

On-call pick-up of Excess Refuse and Bulky Waste

Residents may request to have collected any excess refuse discarded in Refuse Carts, Bulky Waste, and discards containing cathode ray tubes (CRTs) such as TVs and computer monitors for an additional surcharge. Within two days of your request, Allied Waste will collect the material placed on your curbside.

Neighborhood Cleanup Program

The Neighborhood Clean Up program allows each resident to place up to 5 cubic yards (7’ X 6’ X 4’ or the size of a pick-up bed filled to the top of the cab) of unwanted trash on their curb for collection, annually, free of charge.

Correct Pile Size

Oversized Piles

If a resident places out excessive material (more than 5 cubic yards), Allied Waste crews are to collect the first 5 cubic yards and leave a Non-Collection Notice (tag) on the remaining material. Residents will be told they need to immediately remove the extra material at the curbside following their Neighborhood Cleanup Day; Allied Waste will collect only 5 cubic yards without prior arrangement having been made. If the material remains at the curbside for more that 24 hours after the Neighborhood Cleanup Collection day, Allied Waste will return to the location and collect the material, and the City will bill the homeowner.

Oversized Pile

Regarding the Cost Charged for Oversized Piles

Charges for excess materials are as follows:

Calls in Advance
$18.70 will be charged for each additional 5 cubic yards beyond the first free 5 cubic yards that are collected, assuming the resident called in advance and the collection of all the material is done on the same day as the normal Neighborhood Cleanup.

Doesn't Call In Advance
If a resident exceeds 5 cubic yards, but has not called in advance, anything in excess of the allowed will be left and is then considered a Bulky Pick-up. The charge for a bulky pick-up is $31.07 for the first 5 cubic yards and $18.70 for each additional 5 cubic yards. Bulky Pick-ups are on Friday's only.

Computer Monitors and Televisions
$43.64 will be charge to have any number of these items collected at one location. Discards containing cathode ray tubes (such as TVs and computer monitors) will be picked up for a surcharge during Neighborhood Cleanup only if you have called in advance.

Residents will be informed that they can elect to self-haul their extra material to the Elder Creek Transfer Station; all residents of Elk Grove are entitled to one free trip per year (CRTs or refrigerators are not included for free).

Non-Collection Notice

  • Cleanup Pile Too Big. Each resident is entitled to the collection of 5 cubic yards of material (7’x 6’x 4’ or approximately the size of a pick-up truck bed filled even with the top of the cab) each year. Your pile exceeded 5 cubic yards. Allied Waste collected only the 5 cubic yards allowed. The remaining excessive material must be removed from the curb the same day that Neighborhood Cleanup service was provided.
  • Any excess material that is left remaining at the curb 24 hours following the day Neighborhood Cleanup service was provided will be removed, and the responsible household will be charged an additional fee on its City of Elk Grove utility bill for the collection of the excess material.
All Elk Grove residents are entitled to self-haul one load of material to the Elder Creek Transfer Station once per year at no cost. Call Allied Waste for hours and directions.
  • Hazardous or improper materials are not collected in this program. No paints, pesticides, or solvents. Call Allied Waste to discuss your disposal options.
  • Television and computer monitors are not collected in this program (without calling Allied Waste in advance). Call Allied Waste to discuss your disposal options.
