Keeping Motor Oil out of our Waterways is Easy
Each day, motor oil ends up in local creeks and streams because of
improper disposal, where it pollutes the environment and prevents recycling of an important resource. The City kicked off a new program last year aimed at curbing the problem--literally. Residents may leave used motor oil curbside on regular trash pickup days, in containers provided at no cost by the city.
Containers can be picked up at City Hall, 8401 Laguna Palms Way (Elk Grove) and at Allied Waste Transfer Station, 8642 Elder Creek Road (Sacramento). You may also have it delivered to your home by contacting Allied Waste at (916) 635-2500. Residents can also recycle their used motor oil at one of the Certified Used Oil Recycling Centers located throughout Elk Grove.
Zero Waste - You Make it Happen!
Setting Out Used Motor Oil & Filters
- Do not place oil or oil filters on or in any of the Recycling, Trash & Green Waste carts.
- If not using container from City, place used oil in a clear, one-gallon plastic jug and tape lid shut. Container may be new or reused.
- Place oil filters in a sealed plastic bag and set on ground next to jug.
- Oil and filters will be collected on the same day your recycling cart is serviced. Do not place oil and filters out for pick-up on green waste collection day.
- We request that residents put out no more than three (3) gallons of used motor oil per recycling collection day.
Thank you for keeping
Elk Grove beautiful!
